PARK PLACE BEHAVIORAL HEALTH WINS TWO AWARDS

Kissimmee, FL – June 22, 2004 – Osceola County has some of the best mental health services in the Central Florida region, based on two awards recently bestowed upon Park Place Behavioral Health Care. The month of June has brought the organization two awards of excellence: the Exceptional People Impacting the Community (EPIC) Award and the School Based Mental Health Provider of the Year.

The EPIC award is the most prestigious award Mental Health Association of Central Florida, Inc. presents. The award was given as a testament of the work Park Place has done in the Osceola County community during the past few years. The Medical Security Program is the key project that distinguished Park Place above the other mental health institutes in the Central Florida area. This program is designed to assist law enforcement in the proper placement of mentally ill persons when taken into custody. The Mental Security program is slated to begin in 30 days.

“Park Place Behavioral Health Care is a driving force to impact change in Osceola County,” said Luz Rivera, Director of Programs for Mental Health Association of Central Florida, Inc. “It took several years to get the program coordinated and Park Place Behavioral Health Care didn’t stray from getting the Medical Security off the ground, that is why they won the award.”

Severely Emotionally Disturbed, Network (SEDNET) presented the second award for the School Based Mental Health program. This program has grown considerably during the past three years. In 2002, 249 school counseling services were rendered. By the end of fiscal year 2004, Park Place Behavioral Health has estimated 10,388 services were rendered to children who needed counseling while in school.

SEDNET region 7A is a multi agency service network for severely emotionally disturbed students serving Orange, Osceola and Seminole County that promotes accessible service for students with emotional disorder and their families.
